No. 123 of the 8th. ultimo, and with reference to Mr. May's

199 of the 11th. May, 1904, I have the honour to trans-
-mit for your information six copies of the Report of the
Government Bacteriologist for the year 1904, which as
stated in the first paragraph of my above quoted Despatch
was not ready for transmission with the other Reports con-
-nected with Medical affairs.

I am glad to say that the prognos-
-tication of a bad epidemic from a rise in rat plague in
the early months of the current year now shows no signs of
being realised, the number of deaths from plague up to the
22nd. instant being 165 against 327 on the corresponding
date
